The Art Contest - General Rules for Contestants

1. Contestant(s) must submit an application to be received by September 21st. Mail to LC Kiwanis,

PO Box 387, Dahlonega, GA 30533 or apply on-line (www.lckiwanis.org/). If not contacted by

7PM on September 21th, the contestant must immediately call (770) 616-0441 or (813) 230-4096 to verify receipt of application.

2. Only one contestant per art submission is permitted. Art can be submitted in any of the following

media: painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, sculpting, or pottery. Only one art item may

be submitted per contestant. This item must be the same item for all levels of competition.

3. Art entries must be delivered to the competition by the participant or a representative on the day of

the competition. Commercial deliveries will not be accepted.

4. Any art deemed unsuitable or objectionable by the committee will be excluded from the

competition.

5. Each art entry shall be the original work of the contestant submitting the item and has not been

copied from a photograph. (Photograph copying is permissible only if the contestant is the

photographer).

6. An entry fee is required from the artist in the amount of $10.00 per contestant to defray the cost of

hosting the competition. The check should be made payable to the Lumpkin County Kiwanis

Club and submitted with the entry application (see attached). All applications and fees must be

received by 6PM on Wednesday, September 21st, 2010. With the entry fee, the applicant will

receive one admission ticket for the October competition. Entry fees received after

September 287th will be returned and the artwork will be disqualified.

6. Judging during the competition will be done by a panel selected by the "Talent

Committee."

7. The art items must remain on display until the winners are announced and the

reception is over.

Note: To expedite entry application, we request that all framed artwork have a wire hanger.

Matted artwork must have a minimum of six pieces of Velcro (coarse side) attached to

back - top, bottom, and corners

IN CONSIDERATION of the privilege of participating in the "Kiwanis Art & Talent Showcase,” we, the undersigned Contestant

and parent or guardian of the Contestant, do hereby release and forever discharge the Kiwanis Club, its members, employees and

agents of and from any and all actions, causes of action, claims, demands, damages, cost, loss of services, expenses, and

compensation on account of, or in any way growing out of, any and all known and unknown personal injuries and property

damage, present or future, which we may now have, or hereafter have, resulting from or arising out of my participation in the

"Kiwanis Art & Talent Showcase.”

Further, we, the undersigned Contestant and parent or guardian of the Contestant, agree to abide by any and all decisions,

regulations, and/or rules made by the "Kiwanis Art & Talent Showcase" Committee.

In addition, the Georgia District of Kiwanis International will occasionally use photographs and film of contestant/entry to

promote an event in local newspapers, television, or in their monthly newsletter. I give the Georgia District of Kiwanis

International its members, employees, and agents, permission to use these media for further promotional activities.

The Performing Talent Contest - General Rules for Contestants

1. Contestant(s) must submit an application. Auditions will be closed September 21, 2010. Mail to LC Kiwanis,

PO Box 387, Dahlonega, GA 30533 or apply on-line (www.lckiwanis.org/). Contact LC Kiwanis if you need

to arrange an alternate time. If not contacted by 7PM on September 21th, the contestant must immediately call (770) 616-0441 or (813) 230-4096 to verify receipt of application and to schedule an audition. Contestant(s) application must be

received no later than September 21st.

2. Contestants may participate in only one act. This act must be the same for the audition and the final

competition. Any act deemed unsuitable or objectionable by the committee will be excluded from the

competition.

3. Group acts (including any accompanist) may participate.

4. Except for the accompanist for an act, only amateur talent may participate in the competition. An

amateur for purposes of this competition is one who has not signed a contract to receive payment or

valuable compensation for performing the talent being submitted. If this status is in question, the "Talent

Committee" shall make a ruling in the case.

5. All contestants will be required to submit a short bio and a current 5x7 photo with the application. This

information must be received prior to scheduling an audition.

6. Judging during auditions will be done by the "Talent Committee." A maximum of 25 acts will be selected

to advance to the competition.

7. An entry fee of $25.00 per act is required at the audition. Checks should be made payable to "Kiwanis of

Lumpkin County." With the entry fee, the applicant will receive two tickets for family or friends for the

competition. Entry fees received after September 5th will be returned and the act will be

disqualified.

8. Judging during the competition will be done by a panel selected by the "Talent Committee."

Scoring by the judges' uses the following criteria:

Talent/Ability 40%

Has the contestant chosen something that presents his/her skills?

Is talent evident in this contestant?

How well does the performer execute?

Presentation 30% Poise, Confidence, Intensity, Professionalism

Artistry 30% Continuity, Suitability, Variety, Challenge, Creativity

9. No student act shall exceed four (4) minutes in performance time. All acts which exceed this time limit

shall be disqualified. This rule will be strictly enforced.
